What is BoneKare™?
BoneKare™ is a feed supplement for horses and dogs, which delivers a specific bone functional form of vitamin K in a stable water-soluble and bio-available format (This active ingredient in BoneKare, which combines vitamin K1 and K2 is called Quinaquanone®).
The common form of vitamin K found in the horses’ diet within fortified feeds or supplements is vitamin K3 or menadione, which offers functionality for the blood clotting system, but does not activate either osteocalcin or matrix GLA protein, which are needed to maintain the mineral density and hence strength of bone during growth and then throughout life.
Bio-available - BoneKare is formulated specifically for the horses' digestive system and is easily and readily absorbed by the body.
Water soluble - it can be fed in either water or in a soaked feed without losing its potency and its solubility will support optimum absorption via the digestive tract.
Why is Vitamin K so important?
Vitamin K is a key vitamin which is often 'forgotten' about.
As humans we are becoming more and more aware of the importance of having sufficient vitamin K in our diets and its many benefits, and are encouraged to increase our intake.
Similarly, vitamin K plays an important role in a horses body, including bone metabolism and general health, among a wide range of other benefits.
The ONLY natural source of Vitamin K is fresh, green plant material - and most significantly for our horses, fresh, actively growing, quality green grass.
As soon as grass is cut, or even when it dries or starts to die in summer and winter, the vitamin K1 content degrades rapidly. This means there is very little vitamin K present in hay, haylage, chop or any other harvested forage source other than fresh growing green grass.
For horses without regular access to quality pasture, especially those who are stabled, BoneKare offers an important source of supplementary vitamin K1 and K2 to ensure optimum dietary intake to support normal bone formation and turnover, as well as other vitamin K dependent physiological and biochemical systems.
Vitamin K isn't easy to make!
Because vitamin K is naturally so 'unstable' it has traditionally been very difficult to reproduce in a form which is able to be utilised by horses.
BoneKare is the only product available on the European market that delivers a stable, and importantly a bio-available form of vitamin K1 and K2.
The active ingredient in BoneKare is Quinaquanone® (we call it 'KQ'), which has been tested by both scientists and vets with great results.
Quinaquanone is patent protected, meaning it has been robustly tested and researched with evidence to prove its purpose, and that it cannot be copied in the market place.
BoneKare is available in 3 or 10kg Buckets for Horses, and in 450gm tubs for Dogs.
BoneKare SPORT, with added glucosamine for joint support, is available in1kg tubs.
